Anti-fracking demonstration in Key Largo

UKAN and MKAN (Middle Keys Action Network) joined forces last Saturday, April 1st, outside the Key Largo office of State Representative Holly Raschein to encourage her to support a bill that would ban fracking in Florida. Fracking is “a process in which fractures in rocks below the earth’s surface are opened and widened by injecting chemicals and liquids at high pressure: used especially to extract natural gas or oil.” (www.dictionary.com). Most scientists agree that fracking is highly dangerous to water supplies, especially in Florida with its highly porous sub-surface rock. Rep. Raschein chairs the Natural Resources and Public Lands Committee in the Florida House, so can (and should!) act now to add H.B. 451 (the so-called “anti-fracking” bill) to her committee’s agenda. Call her TODAY to show your support!
